Gemma joined Kerin Benson Lawyers in August 2016 after being awarded her Juris Doctor from University of New South Wales. She also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Melbourne in Art History. Gemma’s legal background is in property and conveyancing which complements her strata law practice at Kerin Benson Lawyers.

At Kerin Benson Lawyers, Gemma is responsible for drafting, reviewing, registering and providing advice relating to by-laws. She is also responsible for advising and acting in strata disputes, and providing advice to owners corporations on issues arising under the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015 including building management agreements, meetings of owners corporations and duties of strata committees. Most recently Gemma has acted for owners corporations in NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) proceedings and successfully secured interim and substantive orders for unauthorised works to common property. Gemma also has day to day carriage of building defect matters under the Home Building Act 1989 acting for home owners and owners corporations in both NCAT and the Supreme Court. Gemma has also assisted on matters regarding collective sale and strata renewal.

Gemma is in communication daily with strata managers, individual lot owners, strata committee members and building experts.

Gemma has been published in the Australian Construction Law Newsletter and is a member of the City of Sydney Law Society.

When she is not at work, Gemma likes to tackle difficult recipes and equally challenging outdoor adventures.
